In 1998, before the re-opening of Stockholm’s Moderna museet, I
interviewed the museum’s legendary founding director Pontus Hultén –
one of the international art world’s brightest stars and one of
Sweden’s greatest cultural figures of the 20th century – for a full ten
hours, for an extensive article in our magazine Stockholm New. Hultén,
who passed away in the fall of 2006, was the founder not only of
Moderna museet and Centre Pompidou in Paris, but also of a number of
other prominent art institutions around the world. In this interview,
which in my opinion is both educative and highly entertaining, you can
really feel the wind from the wings of modern history.

This text was written as an intro in the cathalogue for the Swedish
Style in Australia event in 2005. It deals with that very same, quite
dubious expression, Swedish Style, which I myself once coined and which
I here attempt to explain...
